ABERDEEN, S.D. – Formerly known as the Black & White Ball, Presentation College’s annual signature fundraising event, now known as the Denim & Diamonds Gala, will be held at the Ramkota Convention Center on September 24th. This year’s gala will also feature an award component honoring distinguished alumna, Gloria Shean, and the late local legend, Glenna Fouberg.
Fouberg will be posthumously honored with the Nano Nagle Distinguished Service Award in recognition of the years of service she devoted to the Aberdeen community, and beyond. Fouberg was a lifelong educator and counselor who also enjoyed knitting. She was known for gifting her original creations to friends in the community. Fouberg also bettered people’s lives by instilling in them a sense of self-confidence and always encouraging them to follow their own path.
Shean will receive the Saints Spirit of Philanthropy Award in honor of the many scholarships she has made available to first generation students at the College, as well as for her investments made to help further rural healthcare education. Shean was an operating room nurse who spent 28 years in the Air Force and 30 years at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio, TX. She also spent her life helping her siblings and the animals on the farm in Illinois where she grew up.
Proceeds from the Denim & Diamonds Gala support student scholarships, making a real difference in the lives of students pursuing their dreams.
Matthew Blair, Vice President of Mission and Advancement at Presentation College, says “The purpose of the event is unchanged. The Gala is the college’s most important fundraiser of the year for college-wide scholarships. This year however, we are excited to also honor two dynamic woman who have made a tremendous impact on society and are role models for our students. Our desire is to ensure that every student that wants to attend PC has the financial resources to do so, for the entirety of their collegiate journey. When you impact a student's life with scholarships, you're also touching the lives of everyone they encounter throughout their life. Wherever their careers may take them. Your generosity empowers them to be change agents. To not only do well in their careers but do good in the world. To be world changers.”
The evening’s menu will include appetizers, a gourmet dinner, mouth-watering desserts, and entertainment. Other highlights include a live and silent auction as well as a raffle for a fun getaway that includes a $2,500 Norwegian Cruise Line gift card and a $1,000 Delta Airlines gift card.
