According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook handbook, during the next ten years, careers within the healthcare field are expected to grow by 18%. The Health and Natural Science Division at Presentation College is preparing students to meet this healthcare need with a variety of majors. Some majors specialize in teaching a specific trade and skill set, while others prepare students to enter a range of careers or professional programs upon graduation. Each major within the Health and Natural Science Division will provide the foundational education students need as they pursue a career in the broad field of healthcare.
Radiologic Technology and Athletic Training are accredited bachelor degrees that prepare students to enter the workforce as certified professionals. While these programs are trade specific, they also provide clinical experiences and coursework that prepares students for additional specialized certifications or admission to graduate programs. Presentation College’s Radiologic Technology curriculum includes Computed Tomography (CT) courses, giving students the opportunity to cross train and earn their CT Certification. In addition, students are able to cross train in other modalities as well, such as ultrasound technology, mammography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Kari Nicholson, 2015 Presentation College graduate, stated, “PC’s Rad Tech program provided me the educational background and clinical experience to prepare me for my career as a charge tech at a level 2 trauma center. I will be crossing training in Computed Tomography (CT) thanks to the CT experience I gained while in the Rad Tech program at PC.” In addition to Radiological careers, previous Rad Tech graduates have continued their education in fields such as Physician’s Assistant and Healthcare Administration.
Hailey Haukeli, 2017 Athletic Training graduate, also attributed her PC education in preparing her for graduate studies. “The professors, staff, and curriculum within the Athletic Training program prepared me educationally and professionally to be successful in graduate school.” Hailey is currently pursuing a Masters of Physical Education in Sports and Recreation Administration at Eastern Washington University.
Presentation College’s Biology program is an excellent example of a major that prepares students for a wide range of occupations within the healthcare field. The majority of PC’s Biology alums continue their education and pursue graduate and professional degrees within the following areas: Dentistry, Medicine, Podiatry, Chiropractic Medicine, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Jenna Weinkauf, Doctorate of Physical Therapy and 2014 Biology Alum, credits the rigor of her coursework and leadership opportunities at Presentation College in preparing her for graduate studies. “Courses like Organic Chemistry prepared me for the rigor of graduate-level studies, working in the Anatomy and Physiology cadaver lab fostered my love for the medical field, and leadership roles in Student Senate allowed me to build upon my communication and organizational skills.”
Exercise Science graduates, like Biology grads, can immediately enter the workforce or pursue graduate degrees. PC’s Exercise Science Alums have obtained graduate degrees in Physical Therapy, Chiropractic Medicine, Biomechanics, and Sports Performance and Leadership. Our graduates are also employed as personal trainers, collegiate assistant coaches, and corporate fitness/health trainers. Collin Shantz, 2017 PC alum, not only appreciated his educational experience, but noted PC’s family environment as a factor in his success, “Building relationships is a key to success in this field, thanks to the close-knit community at Presentation College, I have been able to build that key attribute which has aided in my professional success.”
If you enjoy science, have a passion for helping others, and are looking for an excellent education and professional opportunities, Presentation College’s Health and Natural Science Division has a degree and educational plan waiting for you!
