Saints defeats Carleton College 8-6 in the Metrodome

MINNEAPOLIS - Presentation College got its baseball season off to a successful start with an 8-6 victory over Carleton College at the Metrodome on Monday night. Junior Andy Bauer (Farmington, MN) picked up the victory going 4 innings allowing just one earned run while striking out 5 and Senior Joe Heidelberger (Villard, MN) picked up the save.

The Saints struck quickly against the Minnesota school. Matt Monson hit a two-run single in the first inning and Jarred Koopman scored a run on a passed ball in the second inning to put PC up 3-0. The Knights responded with three runs in the third inning to tie the contest. Back-to-back two-run innings put the Saints on top for good. Another two-run single for Monson in the fourth provided the game-winning runs and Koopman's triple in the fifth inning plated two more runs. An RBI single by Michael Babcock in the sixth inning padded the lead to 8-3. Carleton scored twice in its half of the sixth, including a solo homer from Jay Melson, and added a run in the seventh but could not overtake the Saints.
Presentation banged out 13 hits while three PC pitchers combined to limit the Knights to six hits.
