ABERDEEN, S.D. – Presentation College is pleased to announce that beginning this fall the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, currently only offered at the Aberdeen Campus, will also be offered online in South Dakota and Minnesota. Currently, Presentation offers online programs in LPN-to-BSN and Family Nurse Practitioner, but this is the first time the College will be offering the traditional BSN degree online.

“We are extremely excited to offer this opportunity to our students and feel that it will help many rural communities around the region develop the very best nurses possible,” said Dr. Diane Duin, Vice President for Academics at Presentation College. “This program will provide many students who do not have the ability to move to campus attain their nursing degrees.”

The online program meets the demand of rural healthcare and students living in rural communities. The program will also allow students to engage with the Presentation College learning community while pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing without having to relocate. Students will complete all clinical requirements face-to-face in the same method as all BSN students, in a standard clinical environment. Students will have the option to come to the Aberdeen Campus or perform clinicals at an approved site closer to their residence.

“We believe this online program can really help fill the critical nursing shortages seen around the nation and especially in our own backyard,” said Marcus Garstecki, Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing. “At the end of the day it’s about giving students a dynamic learning experience and this program will allow us to deliver such an experience in a convenient way.”

This method of delivery is advantageous for rural healthcare because healthcare organizations have an opportunity to maintain their current workforce while simultaneously “growing their own”. Healthcare employees can attend Presentation College and remain in their current place of employment, which promotes employee retention and thus, eliminates costly employee turnover.

Students will complete all instructive learning, both general education courses and nursing courses, online through Presentation College’s Moodle learning management system (LMS), and will be able to participate in clinical instruction close to home.
