SELECTION OF
INFORMATION SOURCES ...
-
What is your topic?
What sort of resources do you need?
- If you need a book or an audiovisual, try the
online catalog.
* Books include print and e-books
* If you can't find what you need at PC or
in SD,
try |
WorldCat and have your librarian interlibrary
loan.
- If you need a journal article, choose a periodical database.
- PC Library's
General Academic Databases
These are databases that cover most academic
topics.
They are near the top of the RESEARCH CENTER. They
are:
- EBSCO's Academic Search Premier
- ProQuest's Research
- InfoTrac's Expanded Academic
- Thomson Gale's Access My Library
* This database is different; it's
Google-like.
* Just below the "search" area at the top of
the page, is a
handy tool. The searcher
can browse by:
> full-text publications (
journals)
> full-text subjects
> full-text encyclopedias
- Specialized
databases are subject orientated.
- Specialized databases are listed
alphabetically at the very
end of the RESEARCH CENTER.
- A descriptive phrase follows the name of the
database in
order to assist in the student's choosing.
- Directions for
Using a Specific Database
- Go to the "Tutorials" page on the library
web and click on
the link for this database.
