ABERDEEN, S.D. — Jay Hopkins, an artist residing in Aberdeen, SD is exhibiting her “Nature’s Playground” show in the Presentation College Wein Gallery from December 3-January 31, 2019. Jay grew up on a farm east of Havana, North Dakota. “Nature and its inhabitants fuel my creative process”, explained Jay.
She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Minnesota State University of Moorhead, Minnesota in 2003 and her Master of Fine Arts degree at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado in 2008. Jay has been teaching Art History courses and The Art of Being Human at Presentation College, Aberdeen; as well as Art Appreciation at Northern State University, with the experience of teaching Foundations to Drawing.
She also teaches several art courses to the community, as well as contributing as a teacher with the after school art program of Visual Arts at the Aberdeen Recreation & Cultural Center. Jay has exhibited in a variety of group shows in Ft. Collins, CO; New York City; Dakota Prairie Museum, in Aberdeen; and the Rourke Art Museum in Moorhead, MN. Her solo exhibits have included the A. Jain Maranouchi Gallery, in New York City; the Rourke Art Gallery in MN and a yearly invitational group Midwestern art exhibit at the Rourke Art Gallery, including the Dakota Prairie Museum and the Granary in Aberdeen. Jay has been published twice in the Studio Visit Magazine: Volume 1 and 7.
Jay feels her “subject matter employs figures, animal and /or human, that float, interlace and connect this organic and geological world.” The Wein Gallery is open M-F 8am to 5pm. For Saturday information call 229-8349.
