Welcome to the on-line home of Recent Headlines: Three 1st Team & one honorable mention selections for post season awards. 11/11 -- Senior midfielder Collin Heupel was named to the UMAC All-Conference 1st Team for the 4th time in his college career. What Collin did for the Saints this year can not be found on the stat sheets. As a captain, Collin spent most of the year playing with an injured ankle that refused to heal. If the team was ever in trouble, Collin was the player that everyone looked to for help, and he always delivered. Congratulations on a spectacular 4 years at Presentation College Collin! 11/11 -- Junior defender Andrew Peterson was selected to the UMAC All-Conference 1st Team for the 2nd consecutive year. Andrew was the anchor of the Saints defense and was usually in charge of man marking the others team most dangerous offensive threat. Andrew came a long way this season and became one of the team leaders for the younger players to look up to. Congratulations on a strong season Andrew! 11/11 -- Freshman Amadu Myers was selected to the UMAC All-Conference 1st Team as a midfielder. Amadu finished the season with 1 goal and a team high 7 assists. Lightning quick speed and stellar foot skills made preparing for Amadu a nightmare for opposing teams. Congratulations Amadu on an outstanding freshman year! 11/11 -- Sophomore striker Brandon Spanier was selected to the UMAC All-Conference Honorable Mention team for the 2nd consecutive year. Brandon finished the season with a team-high 10 goals, and 1 assist, for a team-high 21 points. Brandon was able to have a strong showing offensively despite battling nagging injuries and being put in different positions throughout the season. Congratulations Brandon on another wonderful season for the Saints. Saints lose final match of 2009 season 10/31 -- The Saints visited University of Minnesota Morris, in Morris, MN on Halloween day; and it was a spooky day for the Saints. The Saints lost the match 8-1, marking the worst loss of the season for the Men. The Saints fell behind 3-0 in the first 24 minutes of play. Sophomore Brandon Spanier then found the back of the net off of a rebound shot. 5 minutes later the Cougars from Morris scored on a free-kick which sent Morris in to the half with a 4-1 lead. The Saints would surrender 4 more goals in the second half. The Saints took the opportunity to get some younger players some minutes in the second half, as Morris left there starters in for the majority of the game. This was the final match for the 2009 Men's Soccer season. A big hand must go out to the 2 seniors on the squad, Collin Heupel and Tim Haiar. Your 4 years at PC as student athletes have been outstanding, on the field as well as in the classroom. The PC Athletic Department wishes you both the best of luck as you graduate and move on in your life. Thanks for everything Collin and Tim.
Saints end up playing just 1 match over weekend 10/24 -- The Saints visited the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN on Saturday afternoon. The Saints fell behind with 7 minutes to go in the first half and St. Scholastica took a 1-0 lead into the half. Scholastica then took a 2-0 lead 6 minutes into the 2nd half. The Saints took no time to bounce back as Tim Haiar found the net a mere 20 seconds later to make the score 2-1. Amadu Myers assisted on Haiar's goal. However, 8 minutes later, Scholastica scored again and held on to take a 3-1 victory. Joe Romero manned the net for the Saints and finished the game with 6 saves. 10/25 -- Due to a field that was unplayable, the Sunday game between the Saints and Northland College in Ashland, WI was cancelled and will not be made up. Saints sweep weekend with wins over Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran 10/16 -- On Friday the Saints played host to Bethany Lutheran in a UMAC contest. Though the Saints held a 26-9 advantage in shots, both teams played scoreless soccer through regulation and the first set of overtime. Time Haiar netted the game winner with 4 minutes left in the 2nd overtime period. Amadu Myers assisted Haiar with a beautiful cross the found Tim's head and then found the back of the net. Saints win 1-0. 10/17 -- On Saturday the Saints hosted Martin Luther. The Saints found the net first with 2 goals credited to Brandon Spanier. Both goals were asssisted by Tim Haiar as the Saints scored in the 12th and 17th minute. The score remained 2-0 until Martin Luther scored 2 goals with less than 20 minutes remaining in the game to send the game into overtime. This marked the 2nd day in a row the Saints played overtime. Lance Mohr was able to win the game for the Saints 3 minutes into the 1st overtime, on another game winning assist from Amadu Myers. Saints win 3-2 and keep any post-season hopes alive. Saints lose and tie over the weekend 10/9 -- On Friday the Saints visited Northwestern College in St. Paul, MN. The visiting Saints feel short losing the match 4-1. Joe Romero finished the match with 7 saves. Scoring the Saints lone goal was freshman midfielder Nathan Sutton who scored his first collegiate goal! 10/10 -- On a cold and snowy Saturday the Saints played visitor to Crown College in St. Bonifacious, MN. The Saints fell behind early but Brandon Spanier tied it up in the 10th minute with an assist going to Amadu Myers. The Saints scored twice more both coming from Anthony Hruby, the first unassisted and the 2nd assisted again by Amadu Myers. However, the Saints could not hold the 3-1 lead as they gave up 2 late goals. The two teams battled through 2 overtime periods and the game ended in a 3-3 tie. Brandon Spanier named UMAC Offensive Player of the Week 10/6 -- After a weekend where he scored 3 goals, had 1 assist, and played with muc needed passion, Junior striker Brandon Spanier has been named the UMAC Soccer Offensive Player of the Week! Congratulations Brandon! Saints bust out of offensive struggle over the weekend as they take on Conference opponents Northland and St. Scholastica 10/3 -- On Saturday afternoon the Saints faced Northland College and finally found their offensive swagger in a 4-1 win at home. Brandon Spanier opened the scoring for the Saints in the 10th minute on an assist from freshman Nathan Sutton. The visitors tied the match 10 minutes later. However, Senior Caption Collin Heupel gave the Saints their second lead only 3 minutes later on a penalty kick. A mere 2 minutes later Amadu Myers scored on a quick counterattack and was assisted by Brandon Spainer. Spanier finished the scoring for the game 5 minutes later with a beautiful assist credited to Zerihun Abebe. Spanier finished the game with 2 goals and an assist. 10/4 -- On Sunday the Saints took the previous games momentum into a match with conference leaders St. Scholastica. Scholastica got on the board first scoring early in the 10th minute. Scholastica held that lead for most of the 1st half until Brandon Spanier scored his 3rd goal of the weekend on an unbelievable assist from Amadu Myers with less than 5 minutes to go in the half. Junior goalkeeper Joe Romero had an outstanding game in which he stopped two penalty kicks to keep the game tied 1-1. One of those saves came in the first of 2 sudden death overtimes. The Saints had a superb game defensively as the visitors outshot the hometeam 19-5. Credit must be given to the play of Andrew Peterson, Anthony Hruby, Robert Russell, and Jared Fischbach. Saints continue offensive struggle as they take on Conference opponents Crown and Northwestern over the weekend 9/25 -- The Saints Men's soccer team had high hopes of getting out of their recent offensive slump as they took on Crown College on Friday in Aberdeen. After completely dominating play for the 1st half, the Saints went into the locker room tied 0-0. Crown then took the lead in the 53rd minute and never looked back as they held on to win 1-0. Joe Romero finished the game with 7 saves on 8 shots. Defensively for the Saints, Andrew Peterson, Tim Haiar, Robbie Russell and Anthony Hruby all played outstanding in the loss. 9/26 -- Though the Saints ended their scoring slump, the visitors from Northwestern came out victorious, 3-1. Northwestern got on the board in the first minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. Brandon Spanier didn't let that lead last long as he scored in the 2nd minute on a nice assist from Senior Caption Tim Haiar. That was the end of the scoring for the Saints on the day as Northwestern was able to notch 2 more goals before the final whistle. Joe Romero finished the game with 10 saves on 13 shots. Saints struggle to score against Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran over the weekend 9/18 -- The men faced Martin Luther college out of New Ulm, MN on Friday for their 2nd conference game of the season. Though the Saints outshot the Knights 22-11 the game ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of soccer. The Knights held a 1-0 lead for most of the game before the Saints found the back of the net. Lance Mohr was able to score with less then 10 minutes remaining. The two teams then battled through two overtime periods before ending in a 1-1 tie. 9/19 -- For the 2nd day in a row the men found it difficult to get on the score board as they faced the Vikings from Bethany Lutheran in Mankato, MN. The home Vikings took advantage of a tired, unmotivated and injured Saints squad and took a 3-0 lead into the half. After some inspiring words from the coaching staff as well as captain Collin Heupel the Saints took the field in the 2nd half with a new attitude and played a much better half of soccer. Regardless, the Saints were still unable to score as the game ended 4-0 in favor of Bethany Lutheran. Saints Lose Conference Opener against Conference Rival University of Minnesota Morris 9/15 -- In the Saints Home Conference opener the Men were unable to break through the Cougar defense and find the back of the net. Morris, who were picked tied for first in the pre-season polls came out with the right amount of intensity to hand the Saints a 3-0 loss. The visitors outshot the Saints 19-9 with 9 of the the Cougars shots being on frame and only 2 on net for the saints. Goalkeeper Joe Romero finished the game with 6 saves. Saints lose against Jamestown College at Concordia-Moorhead Invitation 9/13-- The men played there 2nd match in as many days against Jamestown college. It marked the 1st game for Jamestown in a week and the 3rd for the Saints in 5 days. Jamestown took a 1-0 lead into the half but the Saints were able to tie things up in the first few minutes of the 2nd half on a goal by Lance Mohr set up with an assist by Amadu Myers. After that the men just seemed to run out of gas after a tough game the day before and Jamestown was able to take advantage and net two more goals before the final whistle to end the game 3-1. Saints win first at Concordia-Moorhead Invitational 9/12 --The Saint’s men’s team traveled to Moorhead, MN to play the cobblers of Concordia. The game was a tough match-up for the Saints as the opposing cobblers outsized the Saints significantly. The first half ended scoreless but Concordia for the most part controlled the action on the field. Second half adjustments proved to be successful as the Saints scored the load goal in the second half on a Brandon Spanier volley. Saints win Home Opener 9/9 -- For the second straight game the PC Men's Soccer team shutout their opponent, with a 5-0 victory over Bismarck State College. Collin Heupel opened the game up by connecting on a penalty kick in the 14th minute. Lance Mohr closed the 1st half scoring on a hard shot that deflected off an opponent and found the back of the net. Brandon Spanier didn't wait long to start the 2nd half a he notched the games 3rd goal just 1 minute in. Heupel found the net again in the 60th minute with a rocket from 25 yards out. Zerihum Abebe finished the scoring for the Saints by connecting on a penalty kick in the 65th minute. Joe Romero earned his second clean sheet in two games making 2 saves. The men return to action on September 12th &13th when they head to Moorhead, ND to take on Concordia and Jamestown. Saints win season opener 9/1 -- The Presentation College Men's soccer team began their season with a 3-0 win on the road verse non-conference foe North Central University. It took the Saints 60 minutes to notch the season's first goal and that was done by Brandon Spanier. The second goal came shortly after on a nice finish by Senior Captian Collin Heupel. Finishing the goal scoring was done by Lance Mohr when he finished a penalty kick. In the net for the Saints was Joe Romero who finished the contest with 1 save on 1 shot. The Men return to action on Wednesday with another non-conference match against Bismarck State College at 5pm at Saints Field in Aberdeen.

Despite jumping
out to an early 1-nil lead, the Presentation
College Saints Men's Soccer Team was unable
to hold on for victory, as Morris rallied
back for a 2-1 overtime victory. The loss
marked the third time in six days that the
Saints had lost to the Cougars, and the
second time that Morris won on a
come-from-behind, second-half victory.
Saints finish third in regular season, head
to Morris for playoffs
With a 7-5-2
record in the UMAC, the Presentation College
Saints Men's Soccer team has finished in a
tie for third place, and will head to the
University of Minnesota-Morris for its
opening round conference tournament game on
Tuesday. The Saints remained in third
place despite dropping a pair of games to
Morris this week, including a 3-2 setback in
Aberdeen on Saturday in which Morris rallied
back from a 2-1 deficit late in the second
half.
ESPN the Magazine names Tim Haiar to
ESPN the Magazine has named Tim Haiar as one of its Regional Academic All-America honorees for 2008. Haiar, a junior defender from Aberdeen, carries a 3.87 GPA while majoring in biology at PC.
