INTRODUCTION TO WebCT

 WHAT IS WebCT?

WebCT Inc. is the world’s leading provider of integrated e-Learning systems for higher education. Basically, its job is to allow Instructors to use the Internet to get information to students, proctor quizzes, etc.  In this introduction, you will learn some instructions for logging in to WebCT, and the different parts of the Homepage screen.

 LOGGING IN

Open your web browser, and go to www.presentation.edu, if not already there.

Go to the Quick Links drop-down box (bottom left of the home screen), and find WebCT.  If you do not want to go through Presentation College’s webpage, you can type the URL address directly:  http://courses3.webct.com

Click Log in to myWebCT. The Login to WebCT screen appears.

Enter the WebCT ID and Password

Click Log in.  You can now select the desired course from the myWebCT screen.

 Click on the desired course.

Warning: Avoid using your browser’s Back and Forward buttons to navigate through WebCT CE. Instead, use the Course Menu, Control Panel, Menu Bar and breadcrumbs.

Text Box: This is where your breadcrumbs appear.

The breadcrumbs show your current location in the course.  You use these breadcrumbs to move around within the course.

Menu Bar

The Menu Bar contains links to the following:

·      myWebCT: Returns you to the myWebCT screen, where you can access other courses.

·      Resume Course: Allows students to resume their place in the Content Module (course content).

·      Course Map: Allows you to view the structure of the entire course on one page. The course elements are links, which enable you to go to any place in the course from a single page. This feature simplifies navigation and is especially useful for courses with a large number of course elements.

·      Check Browser: Allows you to determine if your browser is compatible with WebCT CE.

·      Log Out: Logs you out of the current WebCT CE session and returns you to the WebCT Entry Page.

·      Help: Links you to context-sensitive online help.  The items that appear in the Help screen depend on where you are currently located in the course.  For instance, if you are on the Syllabus screen, the help topics that appear relate to the syllabus.  You can also go directly to a topic by using the help index.

Course Menu

The Course Menu only displays text links while the Homepage can display icons as well.

The green arrow allows you to toggle between displaying and hiding the Course Menu to change the size of the Content area. When the arrow points to the right, the Course Menu is hidden – if you wish to see the course menu, click on the arrow.  It will point down, indicating it is shown.  Using this option only affects your view of the Course Menu - other users are not affected.
