Presentation College Students Volunteer Across Community Over 70 students participated in Presentation College’s Day of Caring on Monday, August 27. The Day of Caring was a part of the College’s freshman orientation program coordinated by United Way of Northeastern South Dakota. Students volunteered at the Salvation Army, Safe Harbor, YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, and the City of Ipswich. Volunteers participated in painting projects, cleaning the YMCA pool, constructing a storage shed for Habitat for Humanity and building a Memorial Park in Ipswich. Volunteer service is part of Presentation College’s Character Initiative, enhancing student learning through community involvement. “These experiences benefit the students and the community,” said Vice President for Enrollment JoEllen Lindner. “Encouraging an attitude of life long service improves the quality of life for everyone.” Sarah Mack is a Presentation College student who helped with painting a bedroom at Safe Harbor. Volunteering has been a positive experience for her. “It’s nice to help the community,” said Mack. “It’s easier to help than you think.” Volunteering with her fellow students gave Ashley Arnott the opportunity to get to know her fellow students. Arnott helped to clean the pool at the YMCA. “It’s been fun, more fun than I thought it would be,” she said. For Arnott volunteering has become a way of life. “It’s a good feeling. Community service has always been important to me,” she said. Student orientation concluded on Tuesday at Presentation College with student registration. Classes begin on Wednesday, August 29.
