Dr. Brad Tennant to present keynote address at state conference

ABERDEEN, S.D. --Presentation College faculty member Dr. Brad Tennant will present the keynote address at the SD State Historical Society Annual History Conference. Tennant’s speech will address the opening of the Western fur trade in the United States.

The conference, which will be held in Rapid City May 2-3, 2008, will focus on the theme "Empires on the Plains: The Fur Trade." Various other lectures and demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend.

The Historical Society’s Governor’s Awards for History luncheon will also take place on May 3. The winners of the society’s annual election for Board of Trustees will be announced, including Tennant, who was re-appointed by Gov. Mike Rounds this year.

Tennant also recently published an article titled "After Lewis and Clark: Expedition Personalities and South Dakota History." The article appeared in the Fall/Winter 2007 issue of the Heritage of the Great Plains, a refereed scholarly journal published by the Center for Great Plains Studies in Emporia, Kansas.

Tennant received his Doctor of Education degree in 2007 from the University of South Dakota. With 25 years of teaching experience in Aberdeen, Tennant also gives presentations on a variety of topics related to state and regional history and is listed in the 2008 South Dakota State Humanities Council Speakers Bureau.
