Wein Gallery unveils exhibit by N.D. artist
ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The Wein Gallery at Presentation College in Aberdeen unveiled its latest exhibit last week, a mixed media collection by North Dakota artist Amy Jo Silletto. The pieces in the exhibit, titled “Wants and Needs,” include painting, drawing, serigraphy and small sculpture.
“This new body of work is an exploration of the consumer-driven world and whether or not you buy into it,” Silletto said. “The more I worked on these pieces, the more I saw an ugly side of myself; the side that wants the designer shoes and handbags. I don’t think there is a problem with such things as long as you don’t lose yourself to a false world where the most important thing is to have a nice car and designer clothes.”
A native of Bismarck, N.D., Silletto received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of North Dakota. In 2006, Silletto co-founded the Third Street Gallery in downtown Grand Forks, a non-profit arts organization created to provide opportunities for regional and local artists. Silletto’s work with the gallery allows her time to create new pieces and ensure the gallery remains an important and viable place for other artists to show their work.
“Wants and Needs” will be on display in the Wein Gallery through June 20. For more information on the collection, contact Wein Gallery Director Greg Blair at 605-229-8585 or visit www.presentation.edu/weingallery.
