Library Director Lea Briggs |
Lea Briggs Becomes New Library Director Presentation College has announced that Lea Briggs has been hired as Library Director. Briggs will also serve as an instructor teaching courses in Information Literacy. Briggs graduated from Emporia State University with a Masters in Library and Information Science. She earned her undergraduate degree from Northern State University. A native of Fort Pierre, Briggs previously served as Reference Services Librarian and Instructor of Information Literacy at Northern State University. She takes over the position from Arvyce Burns, who served as the College’s Library Director for 20 years. “The library should provide the College community with resources, great service and appealing surroundings,” said Briggs. “We will continue providing the service our students have come to expect and also work to streamline services and online resources. We also expect to make some updates to the library’s physical space.” Briggs enjoys helping library users understand resources and find information. “I look forward to working in the classroom with faculty to help students become familiar with the library and its website. Libraries must find ways to raise awareness and market their programs,” said Briggs. Briggs is a member of the South Dakota Library Association Executive Board, acting as a liaison to the American Library Association. She was also one of 100 participants selected for the American Library Association’s nationwide “Emerging Leaders” program.
