Dr. Martin Albl published in leading international journal
ABERDEEN, S.D. --Dr. Martin Albl, an associate professor in the Arts and Sciences department at Presentation College, was recently published in Vigiliae Christianae, one of the leading journals of early Christian history and theology.
Entitled "The Image of the Jews in Ps.-Gregory of Nyssa’s Testimonies against the Jews," Albl’s article is based on a collection of commentaries on Old Testament passages.
"My article compares the Testimonies with other early Christian works that were also written for a Jewish audience," Albl said. "Some of these other Christian works portray the Jewish people as hopelessly wicked, stubborn, and the killers of Jesus. In contrast, Testimonies treats its implied Jewish audience with more respect, putting forth reasonable arguments in an attempt to persuade Jewish readers that their scripture points toward Jesus as the Messiah."
Albl’s article was published in early 2008. The Vigiliae Christianae: A Review of Early Christian Life and Languages is published quarterly in the Netherlands.
Albl earned his doctorate in religious studies from Marquette University. He has taught religious studies courses in the Arts and Sciences department at Presentation College since 1998. He also writes a bi-monthly column for the American News on religion and public life. For more information, Albl can be reached at 1-800-437-6060 ext 540.
