Surgical Technology Job
Description:
The
surgical technologist is an important operating room team
member who prepares for each surgery using
aseptic and
sterile
technique. The goal is to protect the
patient during the procedure by continuously monitoring the
surgical environment, and anticipating the surgeon's needs.

A ST's Job Duties Are To: |

Create and Maintain the Sterile
Field |
Work with the RN and Anesthesia
Staff |

Organize Surgical Armamentarium |
Perform Patient Cares (i.e. skin
prep) |

Clean, Inspect, and Sterilize
Instruments |
Disinfect the OR and Equipment |

Assist Surgeons During Procedures |
Maintain National Ed Standards

Surgical Technology Program Mission:
The mission of this Surgical Technology Program is to
develop surgical technologists into responsible operating
room team members. Program
graduates will work to promote and maintain healthy patient
outcomes in the surgical environment. Each graduate will
be a skilled and experienced asset to any surgical
community.
Why Become a Surgical Technology Student?
PC Surgical Technology Graduates are
eligible to take the
National Certification Exam.
This CAAHEP Accredited Surgical Technology Program
has been developed according to the standards set by the
Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology 5th Edition.
Surgical Technology Student Qualities
All surgical technology students must adhere
to program, hospital, and professional policies and
standards. Supportive behavioral attributes include an
ability to follow directions, rigorous self-accountability
based on conscientiousness and trustworthiness, and strict
maintenance of a positive and professional attitude.
Expectations of the Surgical Technology Student:
- Background checks will be required.
- Current and required immunizations
- Complete the physical health assessment requirement
- Current CPR certificate "healthcare provider level"
- A "C" or above in all required courses is needed to
progress

Presentation's Surgical Technology Technical Standards:
- The visual acuity to observe sterile technique and
manipulate equipment and supplies.
- An auditory level to communicate effectively with
patients and members of the healthcare team.
- Excellent manual dexterity and fine motor
coordination is needed to effectively manipulate
supplies, instruments, and equipment, lift a tray of
instruments, and respond promptly to patients' needs.
- Satisfactory intellectual and emotional functions to
exercise independent judgment and discretion in the
performance of assigned responsibilities.
