The story of Presentation College is similar to all stories of human organizations: one built on inspiration, dreams, aspirations, dedication, walking the extra mile, challenges, difficulties met, and difficulties overcome.

Presentation College is an independent Catholic educational institution, sponsored by the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (PBVM). It originated in Mitchell, South Dakota, in 1922 as Notre Dame Junior College, a parochial junior College.

There was a name change to Presentation Junior College, when it was relocated to Aberdeen, South Dakota, in 1951. The title was later simplified and the College was incorporated as “Presentation College."

Presentation College conferred a diploma on its graduates until 1966 when the College began to confer associate degrees in Arts and Science. In 1968, it became co-educational. In 1971, Presentation College received initial accreditation from The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (The Higher Learning Commission, a Commission of the North Central Association).

In the fall of 1979, at the request of the Tribe, a satellite nursing program was established on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. This program was initially funded by a federal grant and Presentation College. The program offers Native American and other students an opportunity to achieve personal and professional goals in an educational setting close to home. Nursing, social work, science, humanities and religion Courses available at Presentation College - Lakota Campus.

Clinical experiences are arranged in Eagle Butte, Pierre, Aberdeen, Mobridge, and other locations.
In 1988, the first bachelor's program in nursing began. After approval by The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1990, Presentation College offered not only the Associate in Arts and Science degrees but also four year professional baccalaureate programs.
