Presentation College is moving ahead with its plans to build a $4.1 million seasonal sports and recreation facility (Winter Dome), and also complete the stadium around the college’s existing turf field.
The seasonal sports and recreation facility will provide an indoor facility for PC’s students, team practices, and recreation during the winter months. The plan includes a winter dome, over the current turf football/soccer field, providing 108,000 sq. ft. of space for our growing student population during the winter months.
“With the recent growth of PC we feel that this is the perfect time for a project of this kind and we are excited to begin this as soon as funds are available,” said Dr. Margaret A. Huber, PC President. “This project will be a great asset when it comes to recruiting the finest students possible and making PC’s athletic programs even stronger.”
The construction plans include a stadium around our turf field, complete with: 2,400 seats, lights, scoreboard with video, press box, annex sports store, concession stand, ticket window, rest-rooms, storage area, and all other amenities to make the field game ready for both football and soccer as well as evening practice.
“In order to complete this complex, PC will need a significant amount of support from individuals within the community and also businesses and organizations that will directly benefit from this project,” said Cynthia Whitney, Vice President for Advancement. “There will be plenty of ways for people to give and/or donate to this great venture and we are eager to get things started.”
Installed at the end of the football season, and taken down shortly before graduation in the spring, the Winter Dome will provide space for PC’s students, including general recreation activities, athletic training programs, team practices and workouts for football, soccer, baseball, and softball teams, as well as intramurals and PC’s “indoor” sports. When completed, the dome will be the largest of its kind within a several state area.
“Obviously the benefits a complex like this will provide our students are evident,” said Brian Spielbauer, PC Athletic Director. “But this facility will also allow us to host playoff games, tournaments, clinics, and other recreational activities that will directly benefit the Aberdeen community and surrounding areas.”
